209th Reinforcement Company

     The 209th Replacement Company was activated 23 May 1943 as part of the 54th Replacement Battalion (Company “A”), at Camp Sutton, North Carolina.

     The unit was commanded by:

Chapman, Willard K., 0128595, Captain, Infantry, joined from IRTC, Camp Wheeler Georgia as a 1st Lt in May 1943. Co of 209th from May 1943 to unknown date. Still CO when the 209th transferred to the 71st Repl BN in April 1944. Promoted to Captain 25 September 1943.

     The following officers were found in company reports from 1943:

             Aloff, Jack, 2nd Lt., AUS, joined 9 June 1943.

             Arsham, Herman D., 2nd Lt., AUS, joined 9 June 1943

Bing, Roland E, Jr., 01845952, 2nd Lt., was attached unassigned from OCS #1, AAS, Fargo North Dakota, 59th Replacement Battalion on 9 June 1943. It appears that he was assigned to the “A” company 0n 19 June, and transferred “RC” to Fort Benning Ga on 29 June 1943.

Erdman, George B. 2nd Lt, Inf, 01316395. Listed with the 209th (Co “A”) from 1 July 1943 to 4 September 1943.

Fine, Louis L. 2nd Lt, AUS 01895774.  Joined from OCS#2, AAS, Grinnell Iowa in May 1943 and commanded Company “A”. Listed as A Co Platoon Commander September 1943. On 11 October 943 Fine is transferred to battalion headquarters.

Larsen, Harold W. 2nd Lt. AUS, 10895782. OCS#2, AAS, Grinnell Iowa. Transferred to Co A from BN HQ on 18 August 1943.

McLain, William O. 2nd Lt. AUS, 01895715. OCS#2, AAS, Grinnell Iowa. Listed as Plat A Commander in May 1943. Transferred to B Co on 21 July, 1943

Muller, Harold G. 2nd Lt, Inf, 01316189. IRTC, Camp Wheeler Ga. It appears that Muller joined the 209th on April 1944 when the company transferred to 71st Replacement BN. 

Noffsinger, William G, 2nd Lt, US 01845289.  Transferred to 209th Replacement Co on 9 December 1943. Transferred to BN 11 December 1943

Raichart, Richard B. 2nd Lt, AUS 01995326.  Transferred to 209th Replacement Co on 11 December 1943. Transferred to Sta Comp, Camp Butner NC on 18 December, 1943.  

Robinson, Alton U. 2nd Lt, Inf 01313131, Listed as Platoon commander, 209th, on Jan 44 209th and transferred to the 71st Replacement BN with the 209th on 6 April 1944. 

            Williams, Tracy. 2nd Lt, AUS 0506976. Joined from Sta Comp Camp Mackall NC, 19 July 1943 and assigned to Co A. On 18 August 1943 assigned to BN Hq, Bn Mess Officer.

      The following officers were found in company reports from 1944:

Larson, Harold W., 01895782, 2nd Lt., AUS, Platoon commander from January 1944 report to unknown date. Still listed as Platoon leader when the 209th transferred to the 71st Repl. BN.

Levison, David H., 01179935, 2nd Lt., FA, Transferred from Company “B” 18 August 1943, Platoon commander from January 1944 report to unknown date. Still listed as Platoon leader when the 209th transferred to the 71st Repl. BN.

Robinson, Alston, U., 01313131, 1st Lt., Infantry, Platoon commander from January 1944 report to unknown date. Still listed as Platoon leader when the 209th transferred to the 71st Repl. BN.

     The 209th Replacement Company was attached to the following:

            54th Replacement Battalion:  23 May 1943 to 6 April 1944

            71st Replacement Battalion, 9th Replacement Depot, 6 April 1944 to unknown date.

     The following organizations were attached to the 209th:

            Provisional Replacement Company “U”, (5th Replacement Depot (P)), 12 May 1944 to 11 July 1944 for rations, quarters and indoctrination as to duties.
